The new building of a fair hall as part of the Essen Fair was constructed in 2000 based on plans of Italian architect Mario Bellini. With its characteristic front in the shape of a ship’s bow it is an architectonic specialty. The hall is 230m long, 69m wide and up to 15m high, its usable floor space measures 17.000 squaremetres. In 2004 Prof. Jörg Immendorf installed his lead glass art window named “Energy” with a size of 240 squaremetres in the gallery. The depicted blazing flames trigger off a multi-variant play of light.
