The Old Synagogue was consecrated in 1913. In 1938 the inside had been mostly destroyed but the building itself survived the bombing raid during the war unscathed.

In July 2010 the Old Synagogue opened the unique “House of Jewish Culture”. The five exhibition areas inside the building give a glimpse of everyday life in Jewish communities around the world.
